Happy New Year 2010 – 2009 Rewind – 2010 Forward

January 8th, 2010

At the dawn of a new decade, the entire qipit team would like to wish you a Happy New Year 2010!

Before giving you a glimpse of what we will deliver in 2010, let’s have a look back at 2009, a transition year for the company.

2009 saw the release of a new product “Qipit White”, the first smart phone application to copy whiteboard, paper chart and flipchart in high-quality. Thanks to better cameras and faster processors, it finally became possible to process a copy on the device for instant gratification, resulting in a much better user experience for iPhone users compared to the online, server-based Qipit service. On top of that, you told us that it was important to you that whatever is drawn or written on a whiteboard should be shared on the spot with co-workers, classmates or friends. So in addition to the traditional email attachment sharing feature, we came up with a 2.0 release of the product to post the copy on the two most popular social media sites: Facebook and Twitter. As a cherry on the cake, we added the ability to post to Evernote for archiving!

To all the iPhone users who enjoy Qipit White today, we would like to thank you for your support and great feedback. Make sure to spread the word and to become a product fan on our dedicated Qipit White Facebook page. If you want to learn more about the product, visit our page on qipit.com or watch the 2-minute pitch by our CEO on our qipit YouTube channel.

2009 was also an important year for Qipit, the first ever mobile copy service. After few years of existence this free service was enjoying a growing user base and excellent feedback, a testimony that the qipit vision of putting a scanner in your pocket was a reality. At the same time the mobile industry shifted toward smart phones with better CPU, better memory, better vision and on-deck application, providing a much better user experience. This was contrary to an email based approach, better suited to feature phone. It was obvious that we had to adapt, offer the value of the service in other ways, by moving the technology from the server to the phone, as well as better monetize our technology to support our goal to become a sustainable company. The release of Qipit White was the first step toward this new strategy.

On the Enterprise front, we have been working closely with large companies to deliver mobile document capture solutions, closely with their IT departments. This is an important market for the company, dealing with strategic and often sensitive projects for our customers. We hope to be able to share with you more detailed information going forward.

In term of awards and successes in 2009, we want to highlight two key successes for the company. We participated and won the Entrepreneur Showcase hosted by the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley. In November, Under The Radar selected Qipit White to be fast-pitch in front of a key audience filled with VCs, carriers, handset makers and journalists.

So, what will be happening in 2010 for qipit?

Did you check qipit.com lately? It is official, it is here, the entire site got a makeover to reflect our new directions, just in time for the New Year. You will find the information about our products, solutions, link to the store and about us more easily. We hope you will like it as much as we do.

The battle for the smart phone is just starting and this is really exciting. Apple has revolutionized the mobile industry with the iPhone lately, and enjoys a growing market share in this category, but we believe that competition will be heating up, with a proliferation of smart phones and application stores translating into more opportunities for the company. The new Android phones are the most prominent examples. This was echoed by your feedback asking us to support more platforms with our technology.

For this reason, we will expand our commitment to the smart phone platforms in 2010. The preview of the qipit document capture technology running on Android at sfmobile was a step in this direction.

Make sure to stay tuned by following us on twitter, or to become a fan of qipit on Facebook, as we will be announcing new products and updates in the near future.

October 31st, 2009

Qipit Inc. launches Qipit White Enabling 50 million iPhone Users to Clearly and Instantly Capture White Board Notes from the Conference Room to the Classroom

News Facts:

Qipit White makes any whiteboard an electronic whiteboard by turning your iPhone into a portable copy machine.

Just point at the whiteboard, paper board, flipchart or other large-format information, and take a photo of it. What is created is more than just a picture, it is an easy to read, share and print digital copy.

Qipit White, the first iPhone application that effectively turns any iPhone into a portable scanner for capturing white board notes from the conference room to the classroom.

Qipit White is the first of a series of smartphone applications from Qipit, Inc., the inventors of the mobile copy industry. Qipit White instantly converts the hard-to-read picture captured from the iPhone’s camera, removes unwanted shadows and glare, whitens the background and darkens the writing. The result is a fully transformed ink-on-white digital copy (PDF or JPEG) shareable via email right from the iPhone handset. The app is currently available at the Apple App store (http://itunes.com/app/white) for $4.99.

Qipit White lets anyone with an iPhone share that written image with colleagues, other students or parents, and friends, and save it for future reference.

Qipit White Benefits:

  • Saves time and preserves the flow of meetings, no need to rewrite information
  • Allows you to concentrate on listening rather than writing notes
  • Makes it easy to share and collaborate after the workshop, meeting or class

How Qipit White Works

iPhone users who have downloaded the Qipit White application simply point their iPhone at any whiteboard, paperboard, flipchart or anything else that contains large-size information they wish to capture.

Within seconds, Qipit White automatically cleans up the image and provides a crisp and clean, ink-on-white copy for the user to review.

The copy of the image remains on the phone where it can be uploaded to a computer for future reference, shared via email, as a PDF or JPEG file or it can be seamlessly uploaded to popular web services such as Evernote, Facebook and Twitpic.

Qipit White works with any iPhone model, running version 3.0 or higher, regardless of its camera resolution or the presence of an autofocus lens.

Immediacy and High Quality Image Capture Make Qipit White The Collaborator’s Choice

Unlike other applications that provide low-quality copies that can be difficult to read or print, Qipit White produces ultra sharp and clear color copies of most whiteboard photos. The application automatically corrects the photo from the camera, increasing contrast, removing unwanted shadows and glare, and whitening the background to create a professional looking, shareable and printable result (Read more on the Qipit transformation process). With its patented mobile copy engine that transforms photos directly on the handset, Qipit White provides immediate results so users can quickly and effectively turn their collaboration into actions.
